  • Shaun learned his remarkable mid-air body control on the family’s backyard trampoline.
  • In 1996, at the age of 10, Shaun won three of the four events at the national junior championships.
  • Shaun’s first day back in school after colliding with Bob Burnquist in 1997 was Picture Day. He had two black eyes in the class photo.
  • When Shaun was 14, he finished fourth in the Vans Amateur World Skateboarding Championship.
  • At 16, Shaun was the youngest snowboarder ever to win the US Open Slope Style championship when he took gold in 2003.

  • When asked the best way to show off his gold medal, Shaun said “I could hang it from the rearview mirror of my car.”
  • Shaun was nicknamed “The Egg” in his early teens because of his white helmet.
  • Shaun’s favorite rock group is Led Zeppelin. He says Jimmy Page’s floppy sleeves influenced one of his Burton jacket designs.
  • Shaun has purchased three homes in California and two in Utah.
  • One of Shaun’s greatest challenges at the 2006 Olympics was keeping his bathroom from flooding his room. The plumbing in many of the Olympic Village apartments did not function properly.
  • When Shaun was injured in 2004, he was not allowed to have an MRI because of the metal still in his chest from his childhood surgeries. “ I’d be like a turtle in a microwave,” he says.
  • Shaun says that after seeing the 1996 movie “Happy Gilmore,” his dream in life was to win one of those giant checks.
  • The White kids nicknamed their dad “Homer” because he complains about his job and likes beer.
