- Dwight played AAU
ball for Karl McCray’s Atlanta Celtics. Other Celtic alum include
Dion Glover, Jumaine Jones, Jamison Brewer and Donnell Harvey and Jabari
Smith.
- Dwight was the
first player in history to jump to the league from high school and start
all 82 games.
- On November 1,
2004, Dwight became the youngest player in NBA history to pull down
20 rebounds in a game (against the Toronto Raptors).
- Dwight and Emeka
Okafor were the first rookies to average a double-double since Shaquille
O’Neal and Alonzo Mourning in 1992-93.
- Dwight was named
to the NBA’s All-Rookie First team in 2005.
- Dwight scored 14
points in the 2005 NBA Rookie Challenge on All-Star Weekend in Milwaukee.
After his first basket, the PA announcer called him Juwan Howard.
- Dwight was the
Eastern Conference Player of the Month for April 2006.
- In 2005-06, Dwight
became the youngest player in NBA history to lead the league in rebounds.
The former record holder was Dolph Scahyes, who was 22 when he led the
league in 1950-51.
- Dwight tied Shawn
Marion for second in the NBA with 60 double-doubles in 2005-06.
- Dwight’s
uncle, Paul Howard, was the georgia District Attorney who prosecuted
the Ray Lewis case.
- Dwight is deeply
religious. He thinks the NBA logo would look better with a cross.
- Dwight’s
favorite singer is Alicia Keys.
- Dwight likes to
wander around Orlando on his off days. His teammates have nicknamed
him “Citywalk.”
- Dwight is a professional
wrestling fan.
- In May of 2006,
Dwight received a proclamation from Georgia governor Sonny Perdue for
his outstanding community work in his home state.
- After the 2005-06
season, Dwight traveled to China with T.J. Ford and K.C. Jones. He helped
work with Pacific Rim basketball prospects in an Adidas camp. Dwight
will return to China in 2008 as a member of the U.S. Olympic team.
